#QRCodes: What's The Driving Force Behind Them?

Picture_15

I am very proud to say that I am an early adopter of QR Code Technology and the role that it will inevitably play in the future of Marketing, Advertising and beyond.  I am quite amazed at how it is really taking off and how people are gravitating toward the 2D Barcodes.  I believe people view QR codes as having so much potential even beyond basic marketing and advertising.

The gaining of QR Code popularity has so many industries taking a look at how they too can benefit from this technology, in essence it has gone so much beyond "scan the code get a prize or promotion."  Many industries are viewing QR codes a something that can be added to their ongoing campaigns whether its in the pharmaceutical, education or other industries. This technology is here to stay.

One of the things that people do not give thought to is the driving force behind this technology. This is due primarily to the acceptance and advancement of mobile phone technologies. The growth of smart phones has given us the ability to even have a thought of a QR Code. Furthermore it gives us grander hopes of embracing other technologies such as NFC and Augmented Reality.

So as we are embracing the latest QR code and mobile technologies lets not forget that the growth of smart phones has allowed us the ability to reach this technological plateau that is continuing to grow. With mobile being the driving force behind a lot of the technologies of the future we need to consider learning a bit more about mobile technologies, just so we know what we are in store for in the not so distance future

#QRCodes: Uses Beyond Marketing

Picture_2

There is no doubt that technology has grown quite a bit and at a super quick rate of speed. Just a little over a year ago I started my journey to learn more about QR Codes and now just in this short amount of time the technology has grown at an amazing rate of speed. I believe the growth has the masses thinking that quick growth will mean a quick death. These are of course the people that are in Social Media related industries where things move at a super quick rate of speed.  In technology related industries people are moving so quick that they are trying to get to the next best thing at all times.

The benefits of QR codes far out pace just social media, technology and Marketing related industries. These other industries will more likely than not continue to utilize QR codes.  Some of these industries are the Pharmaceutical, EMT, Education, City Government, Eco-Friendly and Medical fields. For these industries QR codes offer practical, life saving and money saving options. For instance there is talk of using QR codes in the Pharmaceutical Industry to minimize medication mistakes. This is HUGE as many people have adverse effects from receiving medications in error.

So the bigger picture is that QR Codes are technologies that can be adapted and utilized for many purposes. These uses will transcend what some may view as valuable in their lives, but there will be many people and industries that will continue to use them as they present ongoing value. I don't see the value of QR codes diminishing anytime soon as the uses seem to be constantly expanding.

With so many new technologies emerging it is great to see this technology being incorporated more into the marketing plans of many. I see QR codes having an essential role in the marketing plans of many progressive companies, now and in the future.

According to its new report, 14 million people in the U.S. scanned a QR code with a mobile device in June. These users represent 6.2% of the total mobile population in the U.S.

The study also reported on demographics of QR code scanners, indicating that they tend to be male (60.5%), ages 18-34 (53.4%), with a household income of more than $100,000 (36.1%).

We think the most interesting data, however, is in the source of the QR codes that were scanned. Print magazines and newspapers lead the charge, with just about half (49%) of the QR code audience scanning codes from those sources. Next in line is product packaging (35%), followed by websites on PCs (27%).

So where are people when they're scanning codes? Most are hanging out at home (58%), in a retail store (39%), or at a grocery store (25%).

All of Dubai goes #QRcode

Picture_12

As a city dweller the possibilities for QR codes are endless in regard to how I think they could be incorporated into various city services. We could use them for Zoning, Building  Code and to gain Inspection information for  commercial properties. This would allow people to gain useful information and have that information at their fingertips. This is after all one of the benefits of scanning QR codes.

New York is one of the trendsetters in this because they will have QR codes on municipal related paperwork, such as building permits. Good job on their part very progressive and very GREEN. One of the things that we lose sight of in the QR code COOL factor is that in is a very Eco-responsible way of conducting business.

Well Dubai has decided to go QR code for the entire city.  They are creating QR codes for every building in the city allowing residents and visitors to gain information about that particular building as well as the services offered. How cool is that, read more about this initiative...

#Google back to #QRCodes: buys Punchd

Picture_9

It was said that Google had abandoned its efforts to push QR codes since they have jumped on the NFC Bandwagon now.  I must admit that I was a tad disappointed at the thought of Google abandoning QR Codes.  However a recent turn of events are leaning toward that not being the case.

Recently Google acquired mobile company Punchd which has a strong focus on QR codes. So it could be that Google may very well be BACK on the QR code bandwagon, or maybe they never left. Read more about Punchd.
